My friend, Sharon Tse is a girl living in Hong Kong with her parents. She is a very creative person which she has a lot of ideas when I interviewed her about the lamp.
She gave me a lot of weird yet fascinating ideas on how she wants her lamp to be. For example, lighting up her drawers so that she can search for stuff easier. She also told me that she does not really need any space lamp for her room for her room is so small the main lamp on the ceiling is enough for her. But she mentioned that she does have some problem that can be solved with some special lamps if the they exist.
She said it was hard for her to go to her bathroom at night without bumping into anything. She usually works at night which makes this a quite important issue. She also mentioned that she does not want to wake her parents up by turning the lights in the living room on.
Based on her needs, I knew that I need to make her a lamp that can show where the toilet is easily so that she would not bump into any other objects while searching for the path. Also, It would be nice if the lamp can light up a little bit of the living room for her to get away from other furnitures.

What she wants:
A lamp that guides her to the toilet safely and can light up the room/ her path a little bit.
My insights:
It has to be convenient because she'll be using it when she wants to go to the toilet. She won't want to search for the buttons by then.
It has to be unique and special. She had given me so many weird thoughts which means she wants something special as well.

The prototype I made:
These are door knobs form outside the room and inside the room.
This is a prototype for the app that links to the knobs.
I was also planning to have the lights charged when the doors are closed. Electricity will go through the metal stuff and charge the lamp when the door is closed. And when the door knob is turned and the door's opened, the circuit will open and no electricty will go through for safety reason.
Strength:
- It is a rather new idea which not many people has made it.
- Quite modern
- Convenient
- Multifunction
